In this paper, we propose a generalization of the double Reference Point Method (the Multiple Reference Point Weak-Strong Synthetic Indicator, MRPWES), where the decision maker can establish n different reference levels, and any scale can be used for the resulting achievement function. In order to illustrate the behaviour of the scheme proposed, we apply our WSI and SSI to the construction of the EU-Regional Social Progress Index, in the Spanish context, taking into account the three dimensions considered: “Basic Human Need” (BN), “Foundations of Wellbeing” (FW) and “Opportunity” (O). Finally, we show that the MRP-WES indicators verify the properties of Existence, Uniqueness, Transitivity, Symmetry, Monotonicity and are not affected by scale and origin changes in the values of the initial indicators. Consequently, WSI and SSI are synthetic indicators whose properties make them especially useful in view of their real applicability.
